CHAMBERSBURG, PA -
On Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at approximately 2:30 PM the Chambersburg Athletic Department received notification that a student-athlete tested positive for Covid-19. The student-athlete in question first began exhibiting symptoms on Thursday, July 9, 2020, and subsequently tested positive on Friday, July 10, 2020 via a rapid test.
Upon receiving this information, the CASD Athletics Department swiftly initiated our Covid-19 contact tracing protocol within our Athletics Health and Safety Plan. Based upon guidance received from the Keystone Health Medical Team advising the school district during this pandemic, it was determined that 48 hours previous to the first symptoms appearing is how far back contact tracing needed to occur. The student-athlete was last in attendance at a CASD Athletics Football workout on Monday, July 6, 2020 which is more than 48 hours prior to the first symptoms appearing. It was, therefore, determined that CASD Football workouts may continue as currently scheduled. Out of an abundance of caution; however, the athletic department staff held a virtual meeting via zoom with all CASD Athletics Football parents Tuesday evening, July 14th, at 7:00 PM to inform them of the situation. In addition, both parents and student-athletes were reminded of best hygiene practices and all symptoms associated with Covid-19.
The safety of our student-athletes is and always will be our number one priority, which is why the CASD Athletics Health and Safety plan requires every student-athlete and staff member be screened for a temperature above 100.4 and all other symptoms associated with Covid-19 prior to entering any of our facilities or participating in any voluntary workout. We remain vigilant in doing our part to help curb the spread of Covid-19 within our community and schools and ensure the safety of all student-athletes and staff as we continue preparing for the 2020 PIAA Fall athletic season.
